Samael once was a more ruthless and heartless Angel than he is now, feared and respected by both Hell and Heaven.
However, he changed when he was put together with the Archangel Uriel after her condemnation by a Council in the 756, so he was sticked with her as Master, also as way to repent himself from the stain of being half Demon for a sin of the past.
When she dies in fact, after a moment of peace and prosperity ends, he's the first who brings her to life when the "Time of Change" is over.

He eventually begun to feel more sticked to her after over 1000 years, and seven lifes, spent with her. Her presence made him more warm in heart and soul, his scorn feelings toward humans softened, capable more to forgive and to live everyday with a joy more. Only his sense of pride persisted, so that he kept looking ever the same, grumpy and serious, only around with Uriel he can shows to be more gentle.
In exchange, Uriel received by him a more warrior and corageous attitude to live her life with more determination, with a stronger sense of justice.

When they arrived in England during the Golden Age of Elizabeth I, she decided to live with the Queen as one of her humble Workers, while Samael as one of her Guards. When the Queen died, the two detached, also because the sixth life of Uriel ended, to meet again in the age of Queen Victoria. At that time she lived in a Ghetto for Hebrews, while he was able to made himself successful and benestant thanks for his new job of Lawyer. When he finally found her, he wanted to bring Uriel at his home to live with a safety more, but she decided to live among the poorest.
